Classes

The program builds year over year, from foundational skills in Drawing & Painting, to creative tools in Digital Art & Design, to the independent, portfolio-driven work of AP Studio Art.

Grades 9–10

Drawing & Painting

The fundamentals of seeing and making, line, value, colour, composition, in pencil, charcoal, and paint. Students build a habit of observation and a personal visual voice.

What students make: observational drawings, a colour study, and a final painting.

Supplies: a sketchbook, graphite & charcoal set, basic acrylic paints and brushes, eraser.

Grades 10–11

Digital Art & Design

Design thinking with digital tools, composition, typography, illustration, and image editing, bridging traditional art skills and the screen.

What students make: a poster, a digital illustration, and a small brand/identity project.

Tools & supplies: the school's design software, a sketchbook for planning, and a USB drive or cloud folder for files.

Artist materials, paintbrushes in a jar, paint tubes, and a palette of mixed colour.

Grades 11–12

AP Studio Art

Sustained, independent investigation toward a college-level portfolio. Students develop a body of work around their own questions, with regular critique.

Portfolio expectations: a cohesive sustained-investigation portfolio plus selected works.

Key deadlines: portfolio checkpoints across the year, with AP submission in the spring.

Supplies: materials suited to each student's chosen media, discussed individually.
