Grades 9–12

The Classes

Three courses, one belief: every student can grow as an artist with the right guidance, good materials, and plenty of room to experiment.

01

Drawing & Painting

Open to grades 9–12 · No prerequisite

This is where it begins. Students build a true foundation — observational drawing, value and light, color theory, and composition — before moving into painting with watercolor and acrylic. We work from still life, from photographs, and from imagination, learning to look closely and translate what we see onto the page.

  • Graphite, charcoal, and ink drawing fundamentals
  • Color mixing and watercolor & acrylic technique
  • Still life, landscape, and portrait studies
  • A personal final project chosen by each student

02

Digital Art

Open to grades 10–12 · Drawing experience helpful

Same artistic eye, new tools. In Digital Art, students learn illustration, design, and image-making on tablets using professional software. We cover digital drawing and painting, layers and color, typography and layout, and how to prepare work for print and screen. By the end, students have a polished digital portfolio of their own.

  • Digital drawing & painting with pressure-sensitive tablets
  • Layers, masks, brushes, and color workflows
  • Illustration, poster design, and simple animation
  • Exporting and presenting work professionally

AP Studio Art

Grades 11–12 · By portfolio & teacher approval

Our most rigorous course, AP Studio Art challenges committed students to develop a sustained body of work around their own ideas. Students build the portfolio required by the College Board, refine a personal artistic voice, and prepare for college-level study. It's demanding, deeply rewarding, and the proudest work many of my students will ever make.

  • Sustained investigation and a cohesive body of work
  • Sketchbook practice, critique, and revision
  • Portfolio assembly to College Board standards
  • One-on-one mentoring toward college and scholarships
